On Parade in Berlin.
(OG Light weights, DPM Jackets, No.2 Shirt, Tie and Service Cap)
During the Eighties the British Infantry Uniform was for ever changing with new items of clothing being developed and introduced. It was a time of change and in a sense a time of "Pick and mix". The early eighties still saw 60 pattern light weights being used with 68 pattern DPM combats and latter 68 pattern being used in conjunction with 86 pattern DPM. Shirts worn were of the KF (Wooly) type but it was common - if not by the regs - to wear No.2 shirts and earlier US issue shirts (of which the latter were very sort after). Norwegian pattern shirts were also worn and later on the 86 pattern shirt which all adds to the confusion.
With uniforms sometimes differing in the same units and new uniforms being introduced piece meal it must have been a Quartermasters nightmare. Below are some samples of the different dress codes and various uniforms.
