History at Murton II
26th & 27th April 2008

The Drive to York on the Friday was not the best of journeys due to traffic but we arrived in good time to start setting up camp. Due to the angle of entry to the paddock we had been allocated we switched to a more vehicle friendly paddock and ended up as the sole user's which allowed us to spread a little, but we still suffered from the usual guy line cluttering. The layout consisted of the Command tent, Antennas and the kit display. All of which was a real bad idea as come Sunday it took us ages to pack up. With only two and a half members in attendance, thankfully the event proved to be a sedate one. Giving us plenty of time to tinker and talk to people.

The weather on the Saturday allowed us to put the kit displays out and also allowed us to tinker with a Cold weather/Artic kit display but as the day wore on it started to rain in dribs and drabs. Luckily the Command tent gave the public something of interest during the wet moments. There were a  lot of positive comments about the command tent with a few ideas for us to think about. The General conscientious is that we are 95% correct and besides a few pieces of paper work it is ready for major events.

Sunday we awoke to the heavy patter of rain on the canvases which continued late into the day, letting up long enough for the canvas to dry out ready for packing, which due to our gradual expansion over the weekend took a lot longer than usual. With  every thing packed away we were back on the road home, just in time as it turned out as a tremendous thunder storm hit as we left York.

One of the attending members had bought his son along for the weekend, and a few discussions had previously thrown up the question of what to do with him in regards to a uniform. The answer came from several sources, firstly the accidental finding of Army Cadet uniforms from the 1980's, a Ex-Army Cadet and the finding of a picture from 1981 of cadets being taught, which so happens were wearing the pieces of uniform previously purchased. With his .303 Rifle every one instantly recognized him as an Army Cadet. It is our intention to eventually do a page on the Army Cadets.
