EVENT CANCELLED DUE TO WEATHER

We drove down the Friday night through steady heavy rain hoping that it would ease of long enough for the ground to dry out. As we entered the last leg of the journey the rain turned to a torrential torrent almost bringing the motorway to a stand still. We arrived to find that it was possible the event had been cancelled, but was asked to stay just in case, after a 3 hour drive, we were not going any where.

The display nearly set up almost ready to be netted.

In the morning we found that it had stopped raining and decided to start setting up only to be told that the event was cancelled. We slowly started to pack away with the possibility of not being able to leave the site until the Sunday due to ground conditions. As it happened  with the vehicles in danger of bogging down we managed to escape (Only just) mid afternoon, and encountered torrential rain en-route home which did bring the motorway to a stand still, then it cleared just as fast as it came revealing either side of the motorway flooded fields and swollen rivers.

Oh well Better luck next year.

2009 News update
Due to the weather conditions and the eventual damage to the ground, the National trust decided to cancel this event permanently to prevent any further damage caused by hundred's of re-enactors and visitors to their grassed areas.
